This is a DaVinci Designs tandem with independent drive. Starting, stopping and going through corners are as easy as on a single bike. Captain and stoker can independently relax, take a drink, adjust seat position, stand for a few seconds to relieve weary sit bones, even take a moment to gaze at scenery, while the other keeps pedaling. This bike is loaded with options. Starting with it is on the upper end of the DaVinci line. It has Campy shifters which means you can “trim” when you need it. This has 4 … front sprockets. With the DaVinci designs system…The chain rings are half the size as those on a conventional tandem because of the double rotation of the intermediate shaft. The combination of 12-, 18-, 24-, 30-tooth driving gears equals 24-, 36-, 48-, 60-tooth chain rings. The combination of the small 6-tooth gap, doubled rotation and the Hyperglide cogs gives da Vinci Designs’ tandems these technical advantages:
Smooth and fast front shifting – The closer the chain rings are to the same size, the easier it is to shift. Other tandems, and even single bikes, are forced to use a 12-tooth gap between chain rings.
This one has Disc brakes on the front and the rear wheel…. No need to worry about going down hills at speed and having rim brakes that have an issue of building a lot of heat. Tire failures with rim brakes (on tandems) are more common than you might think. Not as much of an issue in KC… But Branson… or Denver….
This also has a Carbon front fork, House of Kolor Kandy paint, Red Flames, Zipp Carbon SL70 Aero bars front and back… (Very comfy) Zipp front stem, White Industries hubs, & freewheels…Crane Creek Head Set and Thudbuster Long Travel seat post for the stoker…(They will love it!) This was just over $8,600.00 New. We upgraded to a Carbon DaVinci We are asking $5,500.00. This does not include the pedals. If you want AL bars we can deduct for that… Want different saddles… We can change that also.
This is an Aluminum frame and is a 2 pounds lighter than our Steel Tandem.
In Summery, This one has all new drive chains. This also has Stoker Dummy hoods, A foldable quick click stand, an extra $350.00 in paint upgrades, Upgraded Specialized saddles, 5 carbon Water bottle cages, Garmin up-front computer mounts for the Captain & Stoker, Cadence and Speed sensor, Zipp SL-20 Aero bars X2, Zipp Stem. On the wheels… The 26” wheels do work great. They are super strong and spin up fast. But… For the same price I can exchange the 26” wheels for some HED Belgium + wheels. Built on White Industry Hubs… They are 700c and have a 25mm OD and a 21mm ID. These have new Continental 4 season tires that are 28mm. I bought these as a set to ride on crushed limestone on my new tandem but I have never used them.
I would do the bike with the Silver 26” wheels (White Industry hubs) and new tires and tubes… Or… The bike with the Black HED wheels (shown by them selves) and tires pictured here for $5500.00. If you want the deep dish HED wheels…. $6000.00. The Rear is a Jet 6+ and the front your choice of a Jet 4+ or a Jet 6+.
This bike is a size Small / Small. I ride a Giant medium… or 54. In a Cervelo I ride a 51.
