Speedplay SYZR Pedal System Discontinued BUT… we Moly in stock! 12105

Discontinued but… In Stock

Nothing underscores the need for a more versatile pedal system than the convergence of road and MTB bicycles into one multi-purpose, go-anywhere machine. After inventing the most technically-advanced road pedals, Speedplay set out to develop a state-of-the-art, off-road pedal system to equal the performance of our popular Zero and Ultra Light Action Pedal Systems.

Before the SYZR, cyclists could only choose between road or MTB clipless pedals. Road pedals offer the stable platform and power efficiency that riders want, but they don’t work in mud. Off-road pedals are made for mud and walking, but their inferior connection is wobbly and wastes power. With the SYZR, Speedplay bridges the technology gap between road and MTB pedals to strike the perfect balance for riding on both dirt and pavement. SYZRs deliver all of the convenience of recessed-cleats without the wobbly connection and power-wasting performance compromise of traditional MTB pedals.

To eliminate the energy loss of other MTB systems, the SYZR uses a unique 4-point contact, cinched together by downforce, to create a rock-solid connection not found in any other MTB system. SYZRs also include the renowned fit, feel and user-friendly ergonomic features that cyclists have come to expect from Speedplay.

The SYZR Pedal System is for you if you are a:

  • Current Speedplay Zero or Ultra Light Action user who wants the same features and benefits in an off-road system.
  • Rider who needs platform stability and 100% power transfer for Gravel or any off-road adventure.
  • MTB rider who is dissatisfied with the sloppy, wobbly connection and inefficient power transfer of traditional off-road pedals.
  • Off-Road Racer (Cross Country, Cyclo Cross, or Off-Road Triathlon) who seeks an off-road pedal system with the performance features of a road system.
  • Endurance road rider who uses recessed cleat shoes for walking convenience but wants the power transfer and platform stability of a road system.
  • Rider who is looking for fitting options including custom spindle lengths, micro-adjustable float, and leg length discrepancy solutions not offered with other brands.

  • Stainless – 55mm

The Speedplay Syzr is the only MTB pedal to deliver 100% of rider power directly through the cleats unlike other MTB pedals that waste energy by transferring power through the spongy rubber lugs of the shoes. To achieve this game-changing performance breakthrough, the Syzr Pedal System is fundamentally different in design than any other brand. Expect a period of adaptation as you acclimate to the unique ride characteristics of the Syzr Pedal System. Follow these important set-up instructions to ensure optimal performance in all conditions.

  1. Use only the amount of micro-adjustable float necessary for your riding comfort. Riding with more float than required may make cleat alignment for entry more difficult, so adjust cleat float to the minimum range needed.
  2. Use a lower spring tension setting. To achieve 100% power transfer, the Syzr was designed to exacting manufacturing tolerances. As a result, you must use a low spring tension for the pedals to operate properly in mud and sand.
  3. Avoid increasing spring tension during the adaptation period. Contrary to instinct, do not increase spring tension to control your feet from releasing inadvertently. Increasing spring tension makes routine entry and release more difficult, especially in dirty or wet environments. Adapting to a lower spring tension when riding is learned over time, so you should expect a period of adaptation of 2 to 3 weeks as you refine your technique and learn to control your feet when pedaling.
  4. Bring a tool with a T-10 Torx tip on rides. During your ride, adjust spring tension to allow consistent release in the worst conditions you encounter. Adapting to this setting ensures optimal entry and release in all conditions.
  5. Expect Syzr pedals to release more easily than other MTB pedals. The Syzr release takes less effort than with other MTB designs because the Syzr has no rubber contact friction between shoe and pedal. Other pedals that contact the rubber of the shoe sole create rotational friction or “stiction” and require more of an effort to release.
